The position of
superintendent was created by the board after the State Board of
Education approved the establishment of the post Nov. 6. Anthony
A. D'Ovidio, assist-ant principal of Green Brook School, was appointed
principal, effective Nov. 6. Dr.
Ford and D'Ovidio thanked the board for the appointments and said they
were "nice Christmas presents." The board set the
annual school election for Feb. 11 from 5-9 p.m. Also
approved were appointments of election workers, printing of ballots,
newspaper advertising and posting of election notices. The terms of board
president Fred J. Coles, and members Robert J. Hencken and Griffin
expire in February. Only Coles has announced he will seek reelection.
The deadline for filing as candidates is 4
p.m. Jan. 2. The board announced a
public budget hearing will be held in Green Brook School Jan. 15 at 8
p.m. Should a second hearing be necessary it will be Jan. 22. The
deadline for preparation of an itemized budget is Jan. 14. Mrs. Winifred Minor,
fourth grade teacher, reported about the fourth grade program. She said
English is stressed as a "tool which functions all day long in
every subject." The board referred to
its attorney a letter from Arthur S. Mott Jr., Warren Township attorney
requesting the Green Brook Board consider accepting school children from
borderline property. The letter referred to lots on Green Valley Dr.
that are bisected by the municipal boundary between Warren and Green
Brook. Mrs. Elaine Lawrence
was named teacher for the remainder of the 1963-64 school, year. Mrs.
Marjorie L. Lynch was granted a two-year leave of absence, effective
Feb. 3, on provision she notify the board no later than Apr. 1, 1964 or
1965 of her intent to return. Mrs. Ann Sheredos of
North Plainfield was appointed teacher for the remainder of the school
year. |
